My son, Terry, died by suicide on August 21, 2010, one week short of his 30th birthday.  That day shattered my heart and changed my life forever.  I have struggled to come to terms with the crippling depression that put Terry into a suicidal coma where the only way he could see to end his pain was to end his life.

In order to go on, to make some sense of his senseless death I knew I had to do something to make a difference.  Now, I am a Suicide Awareness Activist. My purpose is to raise awareness about mental illness and suicide and eliminate the stigma of both. This is a speech I gave at Suicide Prevention ~ What Works? A conference in Belfast, N Ireland on November 22, 2012.
